Payment Data Exchange (PDEX) Company Overview

Payment Data Exchange (PDEX) is a healthcare data interoperability standard developed under the HL7 Da Vinci Project. It provides a framework for secure exchange of clinical and administrative data between payers, providers, and third-party applications using HL7 FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources). PDEX supports regulatory requirements, including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) interoperability rules, which mandate payer-to-payer and payer-to-provider data sharing. Through its APIs and implementation guidance, PDEX enables transfer of claims history, clinical data, and member information when patients move between health plans or require coordinated care. Core features include member matching, provenance tracking, and support for consented data access. By standardizing how payers deliver data, PDEX reduces administrative overhead, improves continuity of care, and allows patients and providers to have more complete access to health records across different health systems.
