Securus Payments Reviews
Securus Payments Overview
Securus Payments is a merchant account provider and ISO of First Data based in Portland, Oregon. Securus also operated under the name “PayProTec” prior to the 2014 acquisition of both companies by the publicly traded Excel Corporation. Following that acquisition, the PayProTec name was retired. Securus claims to have been named one of the 100 fastest-growing companies in Portland by the Portland Business Journal and to have been #372 on the 2013 Inc. 5000.
Securus Payments offers point-of-sale software and hardware, e-commerce solutions, a virtual terminal for PC and Mac, check processing, conventional credit card terminals, gift and loyalty programs, and merchant cash advance. The company offers customer support by phone and by email, although it’s possible that First Data may handle some of its customer service. Steven Lemma is the CEO of Securus Payments.

Online reputation and reviews
Securus Payments has received an inordinate amount of negative merchant feedback across all consumer protection forums. Despite the company’s primarily regional presence, there are hundreds of negative Securus Payments reviews to be found. These reviews overwhelmingly mention a combination of deceptive sales tactics and unexpected fees. Specifically, they state that Securus sales agents will contact merchants with a high-pressure sales pitch that does not disclose mid- and non-qualified transaction rates or the company’s almost $500 early termination fee. Another major point of contention is the company’s long-term equipment leases, which typically last four years and cost far more than the purchase price of the equipment.
