TSYS Merchant Solutions Customer Reviews

TSYS Merchant Solutions Overview

TSYS Merchant Solutions is the merchant services division of TSYS, one of the largest merchant acquirers and issuers in the United States. TSYS was originally created in 1959 as a division of Columbus Bank & Trust and has since grown into a publicly traded entity that processes over $1 trillion in annual transactions. The company is a strategic partner of Central Payment Corporation (CPAY) and has acquired several major processing companies over the past five years, including ProPay, NetSpend, and, most recently, TransFirst.

As a direct processor, TSYS Merchant Solutions has the ability to serve nearly any size or type of business. The company’s products and services include credit card processing hardware, EMV and NFC acceptance, online reputation management, recurring billing, sales reporting, mobile payment processing, gift and loyalty programs, and a tablet-based point-of-sale system. TSYS has service packages intended for seasonal merchants as well as products suited for enterprise-scale corporations. Although a significant portion of the company’s business comes via its resellers and ISO partners, TSYS does have a direct sales division and can board merchants who would prefer not to work with a middleman. The company’s pricing and fees will vary depending on each merchant’s processing history and sales volume, but the standard TSYS Merchant Solutions contract is usually a three-year agreement with an early termination fee.

TSYS offers 24/7 phone support to all of its merchants and can also be reached via email. Troy Woods is the president and CEO of TSYS and has served the company in this role since 2014.

Online reputation and reviews

There are fewer than 200 negative TSYS reviews across all consumer protection websites, which is an impressive feat for a company of its magnitude. The complaints that are available name the company’s multiyear contract, its early termination fee, and poor customer service as the primary points of contention. Any company of TSYS’s size is bound to accumulate some complaints, but TSYS appears to do a good job of managing customer service issues in-house before they are posted to public forums.

These people came in, bought out the service we were formerly using for our store, and then jacked the rates all to hell and back. We were paying about 2 or 3 percent, but that is now 5.9%. In addition, TSYS Global Payments also adds an additional set of fees to the bill, so that our credit card processing is costing us 10%! When I realized this it was because we had road construction and our sales went down 40% for the last 6 months – yet TSYS Global Payments are charging us MORE for our credit card transactions.

I am looking for a class action lawsuit against these people. Have you heard of anything?

Small Business owners stay far away from TSYS/Global Payments. I have foolishly been with them for over 12 years. They were ok until they were bought out by Global Payments then they gouged me at every opportunity. PCI non compliant fees, infrastructure fees, yearly fee..they raised my per card charge by 100%. In the end I was paying 8-10% of my gross to these parasites. Their equipment is an outdated joke. They fried my ability to accept debit with their system downloads. Took me a month of phone calls to cancel and they gave me their final FU by charging me an annual fee even though I will no longer be with them. TSYS is everything bad and corrupt about the merchant service industry. RUN if they come knocking.

We were in shock to find out $8.96 out of every $100.00 came out to be to total charge amount charged on Tysis monthly statement. although the other months were closer to $8.00 for every $100.00 processed through out the year of 2024. They are sickened greedy thieves. Ive never seen a company this bad before. They hit 5% a few years ago and we got it down to 4% but it never went back to 3.5% they were operating at as an honest company.

We usually permanently blacklist a company by the time they sneak their total cut up to 5% of all sales. We regret not doing so with them. Last month, They were only hundredths away from 9%. We are doing an emergency migration to another company right now. but it is the weekend.

Heartland, blupay & flagship have been the only problems in the past. We are now adding Tysis to this blacklist, ironically one they were considered to be a solution for 5 years ago. They have now joined the criminal club and will be dead to us, with the exception of giving bad references. We were advised to close our bank account upon closing theirs, That is pretty bad.

Be aware DO NOT do business with TSYS. TSYS failed to notify me that the credit card application I used was no longer in service. When I called to inquiry about it, they said they needed to set up a new account and it would take a few days. I told them I wanted to no longer do business with them. Then come to find out, they did not cancel my account, even though it did not exist as a functioning account, and they never attempted to call and set up a new account either. But they continued to charge my account a few hundred dollars per month for providing no services. They fraudulently are taking money at this time. When I called them again they said they would most likely not credit my bank account because I did not use the exact words, ”Close my account”. Beware of doing business with this company, as they run you in circles as to not take responsibility for not providing services, but to take your money.

agreed complete and total rip off. they’ve been stealing money from me in the form of ‘infrastructure fees’ ($200) and now an ‘annual fee’ ($200) worst company ever to do business with. stay away.

While I have not yet recovered the funds, TSYS has attempted to hold funds from what they allege was a mistake in handling a chargeback from nearly FOUR YEARS ago where a customer bought a very expensive gun (I have Federal paperwork for the transaction showing they picked up the rifle) then tried to claim it was a fraudulent purchase. The Uniform Commercial Code bars claims under a statute of limitations after either 12-months or 3-years depending on the type of claim. Regardless of which way you would interpret the SoL, the UCC would bar a claim made four years after the fact. Looks like I get to go to court for this one.

I am just now realizing that this company has taken almost $5000 from my business account in the past two years, after I stopped using them as my credit card processor. Someone other than myself was monitoring the account. My question is whether or not you were able to get your money back? I don’t know how or where to start. I consider it fraud, but need to know where to start. Are their headquarters in Boston? Thank you for a reply.

This company is a rip off. The credit card processor never worked. They charge me $50 a month for not using it and when closing the account they send you through a lengthy process to close, which will result in you being charged without you no longer being in possession of the machine. When I called to find out why I was being charged still, the agent wanted me to resend the cancellation letter that they lost, to still not close the account. Please do not use this company for your merchant payments.

They claim that they take 2.5% from what you’ve earned. It’s a bunch of lie though. They seem to have bunch of hidden fees which steals at least 7% and in average, stole more than 10% from all my monthly earnings. They are the most expensive company I have ever used through out my life time.

When I called them, they explain that they charge more when we process American Express. Not even a nice try. We barely use them and the month they took more than 13% from us, there’s barely any American Express used.

TSYS is a bunch of crooks! Stay away and don’t do business with this company. There customer service or lack there of is atrocious. They absolutely gutted our small business with a bunch of hidden fees. Spent forever trying to get a hold of someone to address the problem and when I finely did they weren’t will to help out. So if your looking for a prosses services please stay away from them so you don’t get taken advantage of to.

Has anyone else had issues with double charges since TSYS rebooted after their crash on Saturday 8/21/21?

Since that date they have been recharging transactions from June and July to the tune of over $200k and several hundred transactions. To make things worse, they do not know how to stop it from happening! It will reoccur tonight to add at least another 30k to the issue. Heartland and TSYS, both are responsible.

CROOKS AND FRAUDS!! All the negative reviews which I have so far read combined barely hold a candle to the bad review I would like to give. To say this company is a fraud and a pick-pocket is no understatement. They were able to take a total of $2700 from our checking account SINCE WE CLOSED THE ACCOUNT. Why? They claimed we never closed the account, even though we sent back all equipment, and moved our processing elsewhere. We never received a bill, paper or in email, we never received a 1099-K, we never received ANY NOTICE whatsoever that we were being charged as though our account were still open. We never got notice of their “auto renewal” plot, which sucked another couple of hundred dollars out of the account. If you want a paper statement you are charged $2.00 for the privilege, and there is NO email notification of anything – a billing period, a renewal, an increase in fees, etc. ALL THIS WAS DONE IN SECRET. Their bank debits to our account only ever read “Merchant Services”. — which means F****** NOTHING, as they well know. Our own bank could not determine where the money went to, again, evasive and fraudulent. For the life of me I cannot figure out how they got this bulls*** “A+” rating. Probably more lies and maneuvering.

They are crooks and will sneak in charges until you notice then they refund you. I have reported them and they are under investigation. Their BBB rating is false they are fraud.

Been with them for about 2 years. At first, everything went great. As time went on, kept getting charged fees when my contract was $99 per year. I was in complete compliance yet kept seeing money being taken out of my account. When reaching customer service, impossible to communicate with representatives due to their lack of speaking English. DO NOT sign up with them. BTW, they rating on BBB is a F.

IF you are unlucky enough to have been a customer of TSYS or CAYAN which was acquired by TSYS or now as of 2019 TYS has been acquired by Global Systems. Then I will echo the comments of all the other people here. RUN! they are legal organized crime at its finest. I have been with the company for over 10 years. I originally signed up with CAYAN. The fees were not the cheapest but were doable. Once TSYS took over the fees steadily went up. In fact as of this writing they are charging me between 19-21% per month in fees. I am a small merchant I run from 1,000-2500.00 per month. I have never had a charge back in the entire time I have been accepting credit card “over 15 years” and I and my business have a credit rating of 790. This company is one of the worst I have ever seen in my life. TERRIBLE…after 3 attempts to get some sort of explanation, rate review anything I have given up and I’m switching square. Everything they claim is a lie. They charge you bogus fees each month and even annual fees on top of that for things that are basically “made up”. MY LAST QUESTION IS TO MR. PHILLIP PARKER – if your even real and all your claims on this site are true. Then WHY DOES TYS have a 4 star rating?? it should half a star.

Customer service is extremely poor. The reseller does not respond to questions. Customer service directs you back to reseller. They owe me more than $300.00 in bogus fees and charges. As of January 1, 2021 the are charging $54.95 per monthly for some bogus service along with a $7.95 fee for Card Compromise Assist Plan. All of which are a waste. Switching services tomorrow. Been with them for years.

I signed up to accept credit cards for my small business back in 2000 and used this merchant solution account until 2008 when I switched to a Costco account. I thought this account was terminated but seems it wasn’t. TSYS has charged my bank account $66.70 for the last 12 years even though I no longer processed payment through them. They say it is their policy to continue to charge a fee even if I no longer use the systems until they receive a formal termination letter. Since I didn’t catch it, they have effectively charged me over $8000 in fees for something I never used and refuse to refund back charges. they agreed to refund only the last 3 months. My Fault? Maybe. Any recourse for getting a refund from TSYS?
