WorldPay Overview
Formerly known as “RBS WorldPay” and “Streamline,” WorldPay is a large direct credit card processor headquartered in the UK. Following a stint as a subsidiary of Royal Bank of Scotland from 2002 to 2010, WorldPay is now an independent, publicly traded company on the London Stock Exchange. The company processed 6.3 billion transactions worth $195 billion in the first half of 2015 and has made several significant acquisitions in the past few years, including U.S.-based merchant account providers Century Payments and SecureNet. WorldPay is capable of serving businesses both in the U.S. and abroad, but most of its customer base is located in the United Kingdom.
WorldPay’s status as a direct processor affords it the ability to cater to nearly any size or type of business, and the company’s products include credit card terminals, mobile phone processing, a virtual terminal, recurring payments, online shopping carts, automated invoicing, gift cards, merchant cash advance, QuickBooks integration, chargeback monitoring, international payment processing, and some high risk merchant accounts. The company’s online high risk expertise includes airlines, digital goods, gambling, gaming, and travel. WorldPay’s standard contract is a three-year agreement with an early termination penalty of up to $495.
WorldPay offers phone and email support to all of its merchants, with dedicated lines for U.S. and UK users. The company has been known to actively address complainants in public forums, but it’s hard to find any instances in which the complainant verifiably received a satisfactory resolution to his or her issue. The company employs over 4,500 people, with Philip Jansen serving as its CEO.

Online reputation and reviews
As a huge payment processor, WorldPay has attracted hundreds of merchant reviews across various forums and blogs. These reviews are overwhelmingly negative in tone, citing huge cancellation penalties, undesirable leasing terms, misrepresentation by sales agents, unreachable customer service, and withheld funds. WorldPay has made attempts to respond to a number of these public complaints, but it’s hard to tell whether any of the complainants receive a satisfactory resolution. WorldPay’s reputation among merchants appears to be similar to that of any large credit card processor: standard pricing and slow customer service, but a large number of business tools for medium-size and large businesses.
