ShopKeep Review

ShopKeep is a cloud-based POS system for iPad. It offers a bundled merchant account service and an integration with most other credit card processors.

ShopKeep offers 3 plans with optional add-ons, but has received more than 50 complaints about its service and sales practices.

ShopKeep has gone away from its flat-rate pricing and now offers a quote system. The Advanced Plan costs $199 per month, but provides software for unlimited registers without any monthly fees.

Additional costs for merchants include early termination fees, PCI compliance fees, transaction fees, monthly minimums, and hardware costs.

ShopKeep’s rates seem to be similar to its initial $69 per month price point, and there is no concern regarding the payment processing service.

ShopKeep has a 2.9 out of 5 star rating overall on the iTunes App Store, but it does not support multiple sales tax rates, online store integration, product exchanges, or detailed sales reports by item.

There is a rash of complaints about slow customer service response times and a lack of resolution through ShopKeep’s customer support channels.

ShopKeep has received 80 complaints about product and service problems, billing and collections disputes, delivery issues, advertising or sales issues, and warranty issues. 36 complaints have been resolved to the merchant’s satisfaction.

ShopKeep’s BBB profile has 80 complaints and 25 informal reviews, all of them negative.

ShopKeep does not advertise monthly per-register pricing for its iPad-based register and its bundled credit card processing service, and its website states that all merchants will receive a customized interchange-plus rate.

ShopKeep’s in-house sales team does not always disclose the cost of its add-on features. If you suspect that ShopKeep has added undisclosed fees to your contract, get a third-party statement audit.

ShopKeep offers an affordable point-of-sale solution for small businesses, but may not be a good choice for those who need more robust features or very unique point of sale needs.
