Kort Payments Company Overview
KORT Payments, originally founded in 2016 under the name Merrco Payments, is an omnichannel payments provider headquartered in Toronto, Canada. Operating on an enterprise-grade, full-stack platform, KORT supports compliance, risk management, and seamless transaction processing across online, in-store, and mobile channels. The company’s offerings include PayHQ, for authorization-to-funding workflows, and Barnet POS, a unified solution for inventory, ordering, fulfillment, and online sales. In February 2025, KORT accelerated its growth strategy by acquiring Paysafe Direct’s direct-marketing payment processing business, which brings with it merchant contracts, technology assets, and key personnel. Led by CEO Joel Leonoff—industry veteran and former leader of Optimal Payments (the predecessor of Paysafe)—the company is now expanding aggressively across North America, Europe, and South America.
