Encore Payment Systems Overview

Encore Payment Systems is a mid-size merchant account provider that operates as a division of EVO Payments International. EVO acquired Encore Payment Systems in 2013 and has since kept the Encore brand active rather than absorb it into EVO Payments International. Encore also does business in the U.S. under the names “Prodigy Payment Systems” and “Momentum Payment Systems” and in Canada under the name “MOCA Payment Systems,” but it’s unclear whether these brands will remain active in the long term. For now, Encore Payment Systems and its affiliated businesses claim to operate with their own independent offices and employees.

Encore Payment Systems’s products and services include point-of-sale solutions, EMV-compliant credit card processing hardware, gift and loyalty programs, mobile payment processing, and e-commerce solutions. The company also places an emphasis on serving the mail order, food service, hospitality industries. The company offers phone, chat, and email support to all of its merchants, although these lines are likely serviced by EVO Payments International at this point. Blake Pyle is the CFO of Encore Payment Systems.

Online reputation and reviews

Encore Payment Systems and its related businesses are the subject of over 125 negative reviews on various consumer protection websites. These complaints have been posted with regularity since the company began operating. Merchants generally cite deceptive sales tactics, predatory equipment lease terms, and poor customer service as their chief concerns, while former employees claim that they were hired under misleading promises and instructed to deceive merchants as part of their training. The content and quantity of complaints has not improved since EVO’s acquisition of Encore, and there is little to suggest that the company is changing its procedures to be more favorable to merchants.
