National Processing Company Overview
A division of Vantiv, National Processing Company (NPC) is a very large merchant account provider that has existed under various names since 1979. National Processing Company grew rapidly in the early 2000s as an affiliate of the now-defunct Retriever Payment Systems before being acquired by Vantiv in 2010. In its present form, National Processing Company more or less operates as an extension of Vantiv. The company’s based in Louisville, Kentucky, but serves merchants all over the nation.
National Processing Company’s products and services include credit card terminals, check readers, wireless terminals, merchant cash advance, American Express OptBlue pricing, and gift and loyalty programs. The company offers phone and email support channels to its merchants, but it does not specify whether these lines are open 24/7. It’s likely, though, that Vantiv supplies after-hours support in the event that NPC cannot service an account. Chris Williams is the senior vice president of the ISO business unit at NPC.

Online reputation and reviews
National Processing Company has received over 250 negative reviews on various consumer protection websites. These negative reports often mention the company’s three-year contract, large early termination fee, undisclosed monthly fees, higher-than-quoted rates, exorbitant equipment lease costs, and poor customer service. Many of these complaints name Vantiv as an offending party as well. It appears as though the rate of complaints filed against NPC has declined over the past few years, perhaps as the company becomes more fully absorbed into the Vantiv brand.
